Purewal is returning to fitness after more than a year out with a cruciate knee ligament injury and the deal will last until the end of March.

He is likely to make his Railway debut in the critical clash against bottom of the league New Mills away on Tuesday night.

Ashforth's men went down 2-1 at home to Bamber Bridge on Saturday after conceding a last minute penalty.

There is now a five-point gap to safety after third bottom Ossett Town beat Burscough 2-1.

A club spokesman said: "This is a significant coup for Railway to have such a player sign for them on loan.

Railway fans may remember Purewal from when he hit four past the Station View outfit in Darlington 7-1 win last season.

He is Railway's second loan signing from Darlington 1883 following the arrival of Matty Lovegreen last week.
