Harrogate Railway to sharpen defence ahead of FA Cup aasault

Defiant boss Billy Miller believes it is too early to judge his Harrogate Railway side, after a Bank Holiday double left them bottom of the table.

Railway were hammered 6-1 by Droylsden in Evo-Stik Northern Premier First Division North on Saturday, after initially taking the lead.

Nathan Cartman and Alex Metcalfe were both on the scoresheet on Monday afternoon, but Railway lost 4-2 to Yorkshire rivals Farsley AFC.

“If these games had come in November when we have some points on the board, would we be worried?,” said Miller

“Farsley will be flying high, Scarborough will only get better and Droylsden will be up there too.

“The league won’t start to take shape until 10 games, and it wont be until 18 games until it’s a really true reflection

“There is two leagues within a league. I am not jealous of the clubs with the money, you have to accept that it’s par and parcel of it.”

Miller will work on his side’s defending in training this week after shipping 18 goals in four games so far.

He added: “We have to work on how we work defensively. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work out where we have been going wrong.

“We have come up against some really good teams with some really good wide players. That’s been the key.

“But maybe it’s my problem. We come and have a go at winning the game. Maybe that was a little bit of naivety in those game.

“At times we have been exposed. The two full-back areas have been left.”

With a gap in the league schedule this weekend, Railway take to FA Cup action, a competition they are steeped in history.

For the first time in Miller’s career he will come up against a team from the Northern Counties East League in his side’s first round.

He will take his Railwaymen to Yorkshire side Garforth Town, who were relegated from the Evo-Stik leagues two seasons ago.

But he admitted the club’s previous exploits in the cup does put weight on his shoulders.

Miller added: “There’s always pressure with that the club has done. We have a great opportunity to do something again this year.”
