Railway came from behind against Tingley Reserves to add the trophy to the league title collected last month.

The Station View outfit headed into the final as massive favourites but Tingley caused a surprise by taking the lead inside four minutes .

A frantic 25-minute spell followed but it took until the 35th minute for Louise Donnelly to bring Railway level. Donnelly stuck home a left-footed shot into the bottom corner after skipper Ali Purvis delivered a peach of a cross from the right.

Railway again started slowly in the second half and two high quality saves from Charlotte Donnelly to keep them level.

Railway soon sorted themselves out from the early scares and went ahead through Jodi Hodgson’s 18-yard volley.

The tempo was picked up again by both teams but it was Railway that was having the best of the passing and moving, showing the younger team their seniority and passing skills.

As Tingley started to tire Railway opened up the defensive back line again for Dee Swales to slot home.

The third goal killed of the West Yorkshire’s side and Railway wrapped up victory on the 88th minute when Swales turned provider for Nicola Hadley.

“It’s a massive success for the girls and for the club,” said manager Simon Mercer. “It has topped off a brilliant season for the girls.

“It’s been six years in the making with this open age football team and it means we can move on to the next level of football knowing we have accomplished everything we could have in the West Riding league.”

Railway Ladies are searching for new players for next season’s campaign in the North East Regional Women’s League.
