Grimsby Town v Harrogate Town: Simon Weaver determined to build on positive start to life in League Two

Thrilled though he is by Harrogate Town’s start to life in the EFL, Simon Weaver insists that his team cannot afford to take their eye off the ball when they visit Grimsby this evening (Tuesday).

The Wetherby Road outfit occupy League Two’s final play-off berth having won three and drawn two of their opening six matches since promotion.

And, while confidence is understandably high in the camp, Town's manager is determined that complacency will not prevent his players from building on the solid foundations which they have already laid.

“We’re raring to go, we’re feeling good, but you don’t want to get carried away at all,” Weaver said.

“You can’t afford to because you know that these next two games are big games to possibly cement us in the top-seven, maybe even the top-three.

“We’ve got to be motivated by that, but also by that little bit of fear that you need to drive you on. It’s constant praise and plaudits at the moment, which is all good, but you know that can turn very quickly if you don’t focus as much as we have been doing.

“This is a fixture we’ve looked at and thought we have to deliver, we have to be on it.”

Town have no new injury concerns ahead of their trip to Blundell Park, and although the same starting XI has won back-to-back matches without conceding a goal, Weaver has hinted that he will give careful consideration to the team that he names.

The Harrogate boss felt that a lack of energy cost his side in draws with Walsall and Port Vale earlier this season, something that he is keen to avoid a repeat of against a Grimsby outfit who he has desrcibed as full of "vitality".

“They will pass it for fun and knock the ball about on the grass and it will be a tricky game. They’ve got a lot of youth and vitality in their team," Weaver added.

"One thing that we always like to think that we have got is energy, well this will be two teams with energy, so we’ve got to get the selection right tomorrow."

Town and Grimsby faced-off at Blundell Park just over a month ago in the EFL Trophy when late goals from Brendan Kiernan and Kevin Lokko saw the visitors fight back from two goals down against a youthful Mariners XI.
