Wetherby Athletic chief Mark Forster has vowed to keep to his promise and maintain faith in the core of his team.

Athletic progressed to the West Riding County Cup third round when the Tangerines overcame Salts 4-1 in treacherous conditions on Saturday.

Luke Duberry, Jed Vale, Jordan Emsley and Neil Dickie grabbed four quality goals for Forster’s men.

Fortune was on Wetherby’s side as Salts struck the bar four times and Athletic stopper Darren Butterworth saved a penalty.

Runaway West Yorkshire League Division Two leaders Thornhill are the visitors to the Ings on Saturday in the League Cup.

And Forster warned not to underestimate the unbeaten side who have hit 39 goals in nine league games.

Joe Wilkes and Jed Vale could miss Saturday’s clash through injury.

Forster said he would only make enforced changes, even if that meant leaving son Matty out the side.

“We played some unbelievable football on a pitch barely playable,” he said.

“The team has belief and it’s important to keep that. The lads won together on a difficult pitch against a very good side. We need to stick together.”
