Captain Nick Thompson struck the only goal of the game as Tadcaster Albion edged past potential title rivals Worksop Parramore 1-0 at home.

Calum Ward missed a late penalty, but it proved inconsequential as Paul Marshall’s men held on for the win.

Goalkeeper Arran Reid earned the plaudits with a man of the match display to bag his first clean sheet since returning to Ings Lane.

Ward tweeted: “Great result and performance from individuals and as a team today. Shame I couldn’t top it off with the penalty #UTB”

The victory continues Tad’s run at the top of Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Marshall’s side lie three points ahead of Barton Town Old Boys, but their title rivals have three games in hand.

Barton thrashed Pickering Town 6-2, while fellow title chasers Brighouse Town hammered Garforth Town 5-1.

Knaresborough Town secured a morale-boosting 3-1 win in the North Yorkshire derby against Selby Town at Manse Lane.

Paul Stansfield opened the scoring for Boro after 32 minutes before the visitors levelled before half-time.

Colin Heath’s strike a minute into the second period regained the lead for Brian Davey’s squad before George Eustance topped off the win in injury time.

Meanwhile, Harrogate Railway pushed top of the table Curzon Ashton all the way in Evo Stik First Division North, losing 1-0.

Billy Miller’s men next travel to Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night.
