Football: Late Daniels spotkick bags victory for Harrogate Town as Railway bow out of FA Trophy

Brendan Daniels fired home a second successive late winner as Harrogate Town overcame Gloucester City 1-0 away on Saturday.

It had looked like both teams would have to settle for a point with the match evenly-poised heading into the final stages.

But Daniels’ injury time penalty broke the hosts’ stubborn resistance and sent Town up to third in National League North.

The winger has now scored ten goals in all competitions this season, and also bagged Town’s late winner against Workington in the FA Cup last week.

Town have also announced the signing of youth goalkeeper Tom Stewart, who began the season training at National Premier side Guiseley.

Meanwhile, Harrogate Railway bowed out of the FA Trophy 1-0 after conceding a second-half own goal at Evo-Stik First Division North compatriots Mossley.

Alex Low diverted Mossley winger Caldon Henson’s low cross into his own net on 75 minutes.

Railway have now lost their last five matches under new boss Lee Ashforth, who will be praying for a change in fortunes when his side meet Glasshoughton Welfare in the West Riding County Cup on Monday night at Station View.
