Aldborough Road legend Daz Ekin can’t wait to get his teeth into the forthcoming 2012/13 season.

It will be a very different ‘Bridge starting XI who will take to the field for their first West Yorkshire Premier League fixture in a few weeks time with Paul Eagling, Dave Burniston, Ben Clayton and Dan Clayton all moving to rivals Knaresborough.

However, rather than feeling daunted, Ekin is staying positive.

“It will be my 21st year being manager and I’m chomping at the bit,” he said.

“Of course we will have a different team with the exodus to Knaresborough. But we’ve got some good young kids down here at the moment, it’s very exciting.”

Instead of clogging up their schedule with a mountain of pre-season fixtures, Ekin has limited his men to just a couple.

Their first game saw them easily beat Harrogate Town U-19s 5-2.

Another has been pencilled in for a week on Monday against Pannal Sports.

“That’s one thing I didn’t want to have this season,” continued Ekin.

“I don’t see the point in playing loads of pre-season games, I think you do your best work on the training ground.

“But I think we’ll need just one more against Pannal to get us ready.”

Boroughbridge A lost their pre-season fixture against Wetherby A 6-3 on Saturday. ‘Bridge started very much on the back foot with their hosts straight on the offensive, but got themselves on the scoresheet first when Jack Herron broke free from his marker to fire past the Athletic ‘keeper in the ninth minute.

The goal seemed to act as a catalyst for Wetherby and not ‘Bridge, however, with the hosts moving straight upfield from the restart to level. Further goals in the 18th and 29th minutes took Athletic into a 3-1 lead at the break. After the restart they made it 6-1.

Kyle Wall and Jack Ayre scored late on for ‘Bridge, but the goals proved in vain.
