Town have bolstered their midfield options with the capture of former Port Vale man Anthony Griffith, while Johnny Margetts has been brought in from Hull City on loan.

However, Larkin’s return to the club has been shortlived as Weaver has chosen to end his non-contract deal.

After two defeats in three opening matches, boss Simon Weaver felt the need to strengthen his ranks ahead of the Bank Holiday double bill against Barrow and North Ferriby United.

Former Port Vale midfielder Griffith could go straight into the team to face Barrow on Saturday, after Weaver criticised the midfield that lost 3-2 to Hednesford Town last weekend.

Griffith, 27, played more than 200 games for Vale in two spells, winning the player of the year award in 2010.

He also has two international caps for Montserrat when he represented the tiny Caribbean country as captain in 2011.

Margetts is a talented striker who has yet to make his full debut at the KC Stadium.

The 19-year-old played for the Tigers as a substitute when they hammered Town 5-0 in pre-season.

Larkin re-signed at the CNG Stadium the night before Town played out a 0-0 draw with Tamworth on the opening day of the season.

However, his debut ended less than 35 minutes after he arrived as a substitute for Ryan Kendall, with Weaver sighting a groin injury.

He then missed Town’s defeats to Bradford Park Avenue and Hednesford.

Weaver said: “Colin Larkin has left us as we came to a decision to end his non-contract deal.

“He wasn’t match fit enough just yet to replace the injured players that we have absent.”
