Stephen Bromley ensured Harrogate Railway would achieve a record points haul in the Evo-Stik First Division North with an injury-time winner on Saturday.

Bromley popped up in the box to slot home a winner as Railway beat doomed New Mills 2-1 away.

The second-bottom outfit had gone in front in the first half before a well-worked Malachi Farquharson goal got Railway level after the break.

Miller hailed the return of winger Adam Baker as “the biggest plus” from the win, but also credited Bromley for waiting patiently to get his chance to shine.

He said: “When the ball dropped to Brommers, you knew there was only going to be one outcome.

“I’m over the moon for him. He’s not been getting as much football as he would have liked but as a squad player for you, he’s second to none.”

Bromley’s heroics took tenth-placed Railway over the half century mark onto 52 points, already four points higher than last season’s 13th place finish. However Railway have lost touch with the play-off spots due to other teams catching up on fixtures.

And ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire derby at Ossett Town, Miller admitted an assault for the top five would have to wait until next season.

“(The play-offs) is not mathematically impossible, but it will be a hard task,” he said. “We just need to use this year to learn and adapt before having a real go next year.”

He added: “Rather than set a target of going nine games unbeaten, the next challenge is to get to 60 points. We are already above Railway’s highest points total in this league, and that’s with dropping points at Prescot Cables, Padiham and Radcliffe Borough.

“When we look back, that’s where we will be a little bit disappointed. If we had taken points in those fixtures, we would be third.”
