FORMER Bilton CC fast bowler Carl Tietjens has taken a step closer to the Australian national squad after making his debut for South Australia Redbacks in their recent first class fixture against Western Australia.

The 25-year-old quick took one wicket and scored eight in the heavy defeat at the WACA, but is expected to be picked in their next state fixture next year.

Tietjens wasn’t the only former Aire Wharfe cricketer to feature in the contest.

Ex-Beckwithshaw all-rounder Nathan Rimmington - who moved to the west coast in the winter - took five wickets in the match.

“I really wasn’t expecting the call up so quickly, it has been a very hectic couple of months trying to juggle fulltime work and squeezing in training around it.” said Tietjens.

“There have been a few injuries and again form in the longer format for the Redbacks hasn’t been good so I guess they were keen to try me out.

“I am still working but I will be training with the Shield squad during the Big Bash Twenty20.”

Meanwhile Victorian paceman James Pattinson made his test debut earlier in the month against New Zealand.

The brother of former Follifoot player Darren Pattinson has already impressed.

His sibling played a test for England in 2008.

The Pattinson brothers are contracted to the Victorian Bushrangers state team.

They are joined by former Killinghall CC duo Steve Gilmore and Daniel Salpietro who have retained their place in the squad.
