The Harrogate-born former Ripon Grammar School pupil followed up his one metre springboard success by winning the men’s three metre springboard title for Team England in comprehensive fashion.

Laugher, 23, finished way ahead of the rest of the field on a score of 519.40, 67 points in front of his nearest challenger, Canadian Phillipe Gagne.

It was a case of nailing the one that got away for the Yorkshireman having taken silver in this event at the 2014 Glasgow Games and at the Rio Olympics.

Laugher could now complete a Gold Coast hat-trick tomorrow when he competes in the men’s synchronised 3m springboard final alongside Chris Mears.

The pair won Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and Commonwealth gold at Glasgow 2014.
