Diving: Jack Laugher misses out on individual medal at European Championships

Double Commonwealth gold medallist Jack Laugher missed out on another medal for his collection after finishing fifth in the 3m springboard at the European Championships in Berlin.

Laugher scored 460.70 in the morning preliminaries to finish just little over nine points behind leader Ilia Zakharov 469.40 in third.

He improved his score to 471.20 in the final, the 19-year-old dropped outside the medal placings.

Germany’s Patrick Hausding secured a home triumph with 487.85 points, to beat off Zakharov to the gold.

Ukraine’s Illya Kvasha took the bronze medal on 477.20, six points ahead of fourth placed Evgenia Kuznetsov and Laugher.

The Ripon teenager also finished seventh in the 1m springboard competition on Tuesday.

He will team up with partner Chris Mears on Friday in the 3m syncro, hoping to add to the pair’s Commonwealth title.
