Nova riders rise to challenge at White Rose race

Twenty-two Harrogate Nova riders took part in The White Rose Classic sportive last week. a punishingly hilly 115 miles which takes in some of the highest roads in the Dales.

The fastest time was set by Leeds’ Peter Edmonson with 6:08:59.

He was closely followed by Nova’s sportive supremo Greg Ketteringham (6:09:45) with brother Simon in third with 6:20:07.

Corrine Mitchell put in a superb ride to post the second fastest ladies time of 7:46:59, whilst Dave Morris and Mike Wilberforce set the fastest time in the 80 mile event with 4:59:53.

Boneshaker’s Steve Smales form continues at the Darlington CC 25 where in high winds his time of 54:30 was an astonishing 3:30 ahead second place.

Yorkshire Road Club’s Ian Fairweather braved the unseasonal weather to finish third in the YRC25 with 56:26. Nova’s Duncan Mullier impressed again with 57:13 in seventh. Nova’s Rob Senior was 26th with 1:01:31 and Walter Wilkinson 51st with 1:05:01.

The event was won by Preston CC’s Robin Brennan in 55:42. YRC’s Mike Shacklock finished 20th in the Otley CC 50 with 2:00:49, the event dominated by Derek Parkinson of with 1:46:05.
