The eight-mile Ripley-Markington loop was the last event of the Fulford Cycles TT league before the hill climbs begin.

An almost perfect evening greeted the 29 contestants but champion Steve Smales pulled out before the start.

Harrogate Nova’s Duncan Mullier, took the opportunity to record his third win with a PB of 19:25.

This was ahead of team-mate Dave Morris (+31) and NYP Tri’s Simon Cave (+42) with a first podium place.

Boneshakers’ Junior recorded yet another record, to add to his growing collection, with 20:22.

Next week the league sees a one mile ascent of Norwood Edge, a very different proposition to the long TTs.

The following weekend Mullier made an attempt on the Nova 10 mile TT record on Humberside.

There was a promise of good weather, but a rising wind made conditions difficult and he was an agonising seven seconds short and four off a PB with 20:42.

Nigel Goscinski of Yorkshire Velo came home in 21:15 with Nova’s National 60s champion Tony Kent five seconds behind. Nova’s John Tiffany was delighted to record his fastest ever ten time with 24:52.
