Theakstons Nidderdale League: Pannal bring the house down with Newby Hall win

West Indian quick bowler Adelvin Phillip ripped open Newby Hall’s top order with a fiery five-wicket burst before Graham Fish completed the job with 3-3 from three overs.

Pannal were at ease in their chase of Newby’s 103 and only lost captain Rob Ellis for 36.

Rob Smith smashed four sixes in a 37-ball 71 not out as the hosts wrapped up victory in just 11.3 overs.

Ouseburn remain the likeliest side to topple Pannal from top spot and stayed second with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Spofforth.

Russ Robshaw helped himself to four late wickets as Spofforth were all out for 189, with Craig Hunt topscoring on 55 and James Keane unbeaten on 47. Despite falling to 34-3, Ouseburn held their nerve thanks to Jamie Bryant’s fine 90 not out and Adam Fisher’s steady 43.

Killinghall dropped to fourth after losing a dramatic clash against Burton Leonard by four wickets.

Josh Cutts’ 75 rescued Killie from a precarious 123-6 before Tom Stanford also raised his bat from number eight as they totalled 253-7. Max Crompton took 4-48.

James Townsend (78) and Sam Crompton (86) put Leonard well in the hunt for victory before they needed five to win in the final over.

Neil Blaken was run out on the second ball, but then number eight Mike Stansfield clinched victory by scampering two from the final delivery.

Darley leapfrogged opponents Blubberhouses and rose out of the relegation zone with a three-wicket win.

Tom Noble smashed 68 as Blubbs set 173-8 having elected to bat. Darley were struggling at 118-6, but Ross Sands came to the crease and hit an unbeaten 33 to earn the points.

A 166-run partnership between Shaun Brentnall (92no) and Sam Dabin (78no) led Hampsthwaite to an eight-wicket triumph over Bishop Thornton.

Thornton looked to have posted a match-winning 265-5 with Josh Davies notching 73. But Hamps’ openers Ed Illingworth (49) and Rich Vass (36) shared a 70-run opening partnership before Brentnall and Dabin finished it off.

Dan Marston’s six-wicket haul sent Helperby past Alne, easily chasing down 103 with seven wickets in hand.

His 6-33 helped his side go third in the table, five points behind Ouseburn.

In Division Two, Scotton’s overseas ace Dan Major made his second successive double century, but this time it led to a victory. Major’s double ton was not enough to see off Knaresborough Forest last weekend. However, his efforts at the top of the order single-handedly beat Studley Royal 2nds this time around.

Royal must have thought victory was on the cards after posting 275-2, thanks to Justin Perkins (118no), Joshua Crewe (54) and Oli Simenacz (65no).

Despite Perkins’ 4-64, Royal were unable to dislodge Major who hit 10 sixes and 17 fours in a match-winning 201 not out.

Masham remain on course for promotion after a team effort with the bat earned victory over Goldsborough.

Adam Smith topscored with 60 as Masham chased down Goldsborough’s 209-4, which saw Mike Cockle hit 74 at the top of the order.

Masham went above West Tanfield at the top after their 213-8 was not enough to beat Knaresborough Forest.

After Sam Abel (66) and Adam Hogkinson (80) notched a century opening stand, Tanfield lost wickets cheaply against Stewart Pyke (4-68).

Aussie Aaron Brunner (105no) continued his fine form with a second successive unbeaten ton to lead Forest to victory.

Jonathan Millward’s 84 was crucial to Birstwith’s seven-wicket win over Lofthouse and Middlesmoor, who had David Spencer (65)and Craig Costello (53) in the runs.

Lofthouse made 188-8 but the total was chased down in 25.2 overs.

A dominant display with bat and ball gave Ripley a crushing nine-wicket win over Ripon 2nds. Liam Evans Ford 3-28 and Karl Bollon took three wickets apiece as Ripon made only 121. Luke Spence ensured there was no crisis for Ripley with an unbeaten half century.

Pateley Bridge plundered a massive 342-5 to take the points against Dacre Banks, winning by 108 runs on a batsman friendly deck.

Meanwhile, Gav Hodson scored a club record 232 not out for Goldsborough 2nds in Division Six. He hit 31 fours and 10 sixes as Golds’ made 407-3, before Pannal Ash were all out for 78.
