A fine knock from opener Jack Potticary fired Harrogate CC to their first victory of the 2018 campaign.

Having suffered back-to-back defeats on the opening weekend, the Roosters entertained Yorkshire Academy at St George’s Road on Saturday and emerged with a 46-run success.

The Tykes youngsters are traditionally one of ECB Yorkshire Premier League North’s strongest sides, but their bowlers had no answer to the explosive stroke-play of Potticary, who smashed 97 from just 88 deliveries, an innings that included nine fours and two sixes.

His disappointment at just missing out on a century will no doubt have been eased by the fact that his score proved to be the cornerstone of his side’s total of 221 and also, ultimately, their win.

Eddie Wilson (24) and Harry Stothard (24) chipped in with useful runs as ‘Gate put a decent total on the board before being dismissed with three balls of their allocated 50 overs remaining.

The home quicks then set about finishing the job, Harry Stow (3-33) and Tom Geeson-Brown (3-40) ensuring that Academy were always struggling in their run-chase.

Jon McGregor (2-34) and skipper George Ross (2-40) also got in on the act as the visitors were bowled out with just 175 to their name in 44 overs.
