On a low scoring afternoon, the reigning Nidderdale League champions successfully defended 137 with captain Chris Morrison leading by example.

With his side dropping to 80-8, Morrison dug in with the tailenders to strike an unbeaten 33 before his four wickets brought about the turnaround.

Sessay, who have won seven matches on the trot in YSL Division One, were bowled out for just 109, with Morrison (4-28) and Jamie Bryant (3-20) the pick of the attack.

Asked whether his side were now dreaming of a Lord’s date later this year, Morrison said “We are after that. It was a bit of a shock to us all.

“We all knew we were capbale fo beating a team like Sessay, but we didn’t expect it to happen like it did.

“We all though, we’ve given all our Sundays up so far, we can’t go out without a fight.

“We came out all guns blazing and backed our bowlers and it paid off. In the end, we all just wanted it a lot more than Sessay.”

Having progressed from the North Yorkshire sector, Ouseburn now face another home test with Scotland side Falkland CC arriving on June 28.

A victory in that tie would put Morrison’s men just three more away from a date at the Home of Cricket later this summer.

“It’s been a surprise to get as far as we have,” added Morrison.

“Everyone is talking about Lord’s at the club, but we just have to take it one game at a time and keep our feet on the ground.

“I feel we are good enough. We have a good enough team now and a good enough squad of players so I don’t see why we can’t go all the way.”

After leading his side to the Nidderdale League crown last year, Morrison said captaining Ouseburn’s talented group of players was a continued honour.

He added: “They have worked had to get as far as we have. It’s a pleasure to captain them.”
