Nidderdale League round-up: Killinghall bat Cutts through Bishop Thornton

Imperious Division One front-runners Pannal gained an advantage on reigning champions Ouseburn with another show of strength to beat Alne by seven wickets.

Alne set a commending total of 235-8 after electing to bat, but they were powerless to resist Pannal racking up a fourth successive victory.

Alex Buteux (49) set the ball rolling for Alne before Tom Jackson (76no) motored the score over 200. However, Rob Ellis’ half century (62) gave Pannal the ideal start in their chase before Andrew Taylor followed up with seven sixes in a thrilling 82 not out for the leaders to win with two overs spare.

Josh Cutts destroyed the Bishop Thornton bowling attack to lead Killinghall to a 115-run triumph. Cutts struck 11 maximums and eight fours in a 93-ball 133 as Killinghall amassed more than 33 runs for the second time this campaign.

Wicket-keeper Harry Stanford (62) also cleared the ropes six times as Hall totalled 310-8.

Will Wray topscored with 46 in Thornton’s reply, but wickets tumbled at crucial moments as Dylan Jacotine (3-46) led the ‘Hall attack to oust them out for 195.

Spofforth climbed up to fifth as they sent Burton Leonard to a first defeat of the season. Nicky Smith’s late flurry (37no) rescued Leonard from what was looking like a low total after they fell to 102-6.

Spofforth had similar troubles with their top order as they slid to 87-5 in the reply. But Chris Clark (48no) and Craig Hunt (41) shared a 74-run partnership to steady the innings and take Spofforth to victory with one ball spare.

All remaining games in Division One fell to the weather, including reigning champs Ouseburn’s trip to Blubberhouses.

Newby Hall remain tied with Blubbs on three points at the bottom as their match at home to Hampsthwaite was abandoned. Helperby’s trip to Darley also fell by the wayside.

Only three matches were possible in Division Two as Goldsborough lost their 100 per cent record and their status at the top of the pile.

In a rain-reduced fixture, Goldsborough found runs hard to come by and only set opponents Scotton a target of 104 for victory.

Damon Ive topscored for Golds with 28 as the bowling of Ian Campbell (3-25) and Tom Halliday (4-18) put Scotton ahead of the game.

And despite Graham Shorter taking an early wicket, Scotton’s Gary Harland (35) and wicket-keeper Daniel Major (50) kept their cool to clinch victory with eight wickets in their pocket.

Despite their match falling to the weather, Birstwith overtook Golds’ to take pride of place at the top.

West Tanfield leapfrogged Dacre Banks thanks to Sam Abel’s first half century of the summer. The batsman notched up 90 from the top of the order as Tanfield racked up 212-7, with Matt Hearn collecting four wickets.

Dacre never got on top of the chase and lost four wickets for 27 in the mid-order as the were ousted for 147.

Juvan Gericke (3-27) and Angus Shaw (3-44) were Tanfield’s chief wicket takers as they wiped Banks out in 41.5 overs.

Knaresborough Forest had their bowling attack to thank for clinching their first win of the campaign against Lofthouse and Middlesmoor.

Captain Jack Martin led by example with a five wicket haul to rip through Lofthouse’s top order. And Stewart Pyke (4-14) came on late on to say goodbye to Lofthouse’s tailenders as Forest skittled the opposition for just 130. Oli Cullingworth saw Forest home with 47 not out, scoring six boundaries and a solitary six.

Meanwhile, the battle of the second teams between neighbours Studley Royal and Ripon was a wash out, as was Masham’s home clash against Pateley Bridge.
