Richard Thompson batted through the 20 overs for 53 not out, with Ben Hodgson smashing a six in an unbeaten 39 and Josh Kaye also finding a maximum in 29.

It proved too much for the young Helperby side who were put under immense pressure from the bowling of Hodgson 4-15 and man of the match Thompson 3-9. Helperby captain Nigel Milton was the topscorer with 23 in his side’s 61 all out.

In the second game, the rejuvenated forces of Boroughbridge and Staveley took on Sessay 3rds. Batting first Sessay managed 100-6., with Chris Spence topscoring on 31. Craig Easton made 21 while Tom Barker took 3-28.

In reply, the Boroughbridge and Staveley innings got off to a sticky start but  Jordon Willey (37) and Steve Smith (20*) held up the Sessay party and passed the total with eight balls to spare. Willey’s innings helped him to the man of the match prize.

The final game of the day saw Harrogate Strays take on Middleham in the Barrett Cup Final at 5pm.

Harrogate were pegged back by some superb catching and set a small total of just 84 which didn’t look to be enough.

Middleham set off well but regular wickets and tidy bowling meant a Harrogate victory amongst some partisan support.
