Nidderdale League: David the Saint of Ouseburn victory as Driver speeds Pannal across line

David Cummings’ century helped Ouseburn knock Killinghall off the top of the Nidderdale League, as Pannal held on to take topspot.

Cummings produced a one-man show from number three as Ouseburn were ousted in the opening innings for 234.

The batsman made 133 of his side’s total, with only wicketkeeper Oli Rose (28) offering any resistance against Dylan Jacotin (4-68) and Andy Thompson (4-29).

Josh Cutts’ 76 led the Killinghall fightback with the bat. But his dismissal to Sam Dale (3-60) disrupted the chase as ‘Hall ended 23 runs short with the last pair at the crease.

Pannal needed a blistering 48 not out from low-order batsman Ollie Driver to come back and beat Hampsthwaite by two wickets.

Hamps had been dismissed for 177 with Graham Fish netting four wickets, Shaun Brentnall topscoring with 58.

The usually reliable Pannal batting card then failed to fire as it was reduced to 93-8. But a ninth wicket partnership between Fish (27no) and Driver rescued the situation and maintained the club’s unbeaten record.

Ross McKenzie’s fine unbeaten 150 sent Helperby on the way to a 134-run victory over Newby Hall.

McKenzie struck 17 fours and five sixes to lead Helperby up to 241-5. Alistair Darnell then took 4-29 as Newby crashed to 107 all out.

Darley’s struggles in the top tier continued with a four-wicket defeat to Spofforth.

Dillon McCloskey’s three wickets bowled Darley out for just 112 before Spoff’ crept over the line.

Wade McKenzie (4-20) made inroads into Spoff’s card but it was left to Tom Clark to finish the game with a huge six.

An almighty collapse handed Bishop Thornton victory in a high-scoring clash against Burton Leonard.

Josh Davies (83), Josh Chandler (68) and John Atkinson (50) all made steady work of the Leonard attack – featuring Dan Thirkell’s 4-39 – to take Thornton’s total up to 255-5.

Thirkell countered with a 49-ball innings of 68 while James Townsend added a similarly quick 56. But when the pair fell, Thornton collapsed to defeat from 144-2 to 201 all out.

Peter Carr’s half century guided Blubberhouses past Alne, succcesfully defending 230-9. Alne were ousted for just 154.

West Tanfield made the best of home advantage in Division Two as they easily overcame Lofthouse and Middlesmoor.

Jonny Luty’s five wickets ripped the Lofthouse batting line-up apart as it fell for just 78. Sam Abel’s 43 not out ensured a comfortable chase, despite Tanfield losing two wickets on the winning line.

Ten runs separated the efforts of Pateley Bridge and Knaresborough Forest as the former edged a thriller on their home patch.

Chris Langley began the afternoon in style for Bridge with a solid 86, before late contributions from Miles Sutton (34) and Tom Fryer took the total up to 262-9.

Stewart Pyke (3-69) and Joel Ainsley (3-35) were the best of the Forest attack.

Matt Parker (48) and Jack Marton (56) set the ball rolling early on for Forest before wickets fell regularly.

Dave Morton provided another half century to take the chase close, but Tom Clements’ 5-61 proved decisive in Pateley taking the points.

Ripley and Scotton had a similarly tight affair, with the former taking victory by just eight runs.

Bob Brown topscored with 52 as Ripley made 173-6, Tom Halliday taking 3-51.

Dan Major (56) and Iain Campbell (48) created a tight finish but Liam Evans-Ford’s five wicket haul swept Ripley to a narrow victory.

Birstwith enjoyed the win of the day over Ripon 2nds, completing a mammoth 259-run annihilation.

Stumper Tom Croston (112) and skipper Dan Riley (115) shared 191 for a first wicket partnership to lead Birstwith up to 337-4.

In response, only Jack Stiddard (32) offered any resistance as Pete Hardisty (3-36) and Chris Base (3-37) bowled Ripon out for a sorry 78.

Elsewhere, Studley Royal beat Masham by 35 runs after holding firm to defend a par total of 164-9.
