Harrogate CC’s 2018 campaign began in disappointing fashion, the Roosters suffering two defeats in as many days at the weekend.
George Ross’ men failed to fire with the bat on both occasions, losing out by seven wickets to Stamford Bridge in ECB Yorkshire Premier League North on Saturday before slipping to a five-wicket National Club Championship reverse at the hands of Doncaster Town 24 hours later.
Several ‘Gate batsmen made starts at Low Catton Road, including skipper Ross (27), Josh Atkinson (26), Harry Stothard (25) and Eddie Wilson (23), but none of them went on to produce a big score.
In the end, Corrie Keable’s quick-fire 38 was the pick of the visitors’ efforts as they were bowled out for 182 in 49 overs.
A knock of 91 from opener Ryan Gibson then saw Bridge ease to 183/5 and maximum points in reply, despite four wickets for Ross.
It was a similar story on Sunday with ‘Gate restricted to 158/9 in their 40 overs.
Wicket-keeper Wilson hit a useful 49 not out, but Doncaster knocked off the required runs for the loss of five wickets.
Ross and his troops return to league action on Saturday when they entertain Yorkshire Academy at St George’s Road (12.00 start).
