Collingham CC reach Waddilove cup final after nail-biting semi

Collingham’s cup dream looked to be fading fast on Sunday with the Division Two side chasing down a reduced target of 108 after a rain break.

With Adel needing just 24 off six overs, and five wickets in-hand, Collingham needed the fine bowling of Toby Jacklin and Chris Bridge to turn the tide.

The pair were in fine bowling form and it was Jacklin who delivered the decisive wicket in the final over with Adel needing just 11 for victory.

Despite being 16-4 at one point, Anderson said that he had complete confidence in his squad’s ability and attitude to turn the game around.

He said: “It’s great news getting to the final but it was not made easy for us. We lost the toss on a wicket which we knew was a case of ‘win the toss, win the game’.

“The Adel players thought they had already won the game and we had no right to come back, but these players don’t need telling to keep fighting. They have a brilliant will to win.

“All 11 have been incredible for us but Jacklin and Bridge really did the damage. The young lads look up to Jacklin like he’s Don Bradman the way he’s performed with bat and ball this season.

“But he can only bowl nine out of the 45 overs so it’s great we have four or five other bowlers that I can trust to take wickets and play well.”

Collingham will now play Otley in the final on August 10 after they secured a 44 run victory over Guisley at the weekend. Anderson admitted that his young side will go into the game as underdogs but believes that will remove any unnecessary pressure on the team.

He said: “We have already beaten Otley this season and we know that they would have loved to be playing Adel because the players we have got can win us this game.

“It’s a great opportunity for the young lads in the club to be involved in a cup final as some players go there whole careers without every playing in one.”

Collingham’s Airedale & Wharfedale game against Burley on Saturday was abandoned due to rain after Colllingham set the hosts 169 to win.

Burley managed 145-6 in reply before bad weather prevented any more overs to be played.

Bardsey’s game against Menston in Division 2 was also disrupted by weather on Saturday.

Menston were at 126-3, after Bardsey managed 163-7, before the game was abandoned with Menston collecting seven points and Bardsey getting six.
