Aire-Wharfe: Lilley six-for gives Beckwithshaw back-to-back wins

Tom Lilley was Beckwithshaw’s hero, eclipsing Alex Lilley’s five-for on last weekend’s opening day, with six scalps in the victory.

Alex Lilley made his mark with the bat as Shaw’ batted first and ran up a total of 207-7 for their innings. Lilley hit 58 with Yasir Ali topscoring 66.

Ilkley fired back but struggled to deal with Lilley’s. The bowler ended with 6-45 as Ilkley were ousted for 133.

Hudson revealed that after last season’s third place finish, his Beckwithshaw side are pushing for the title.

He said: “With the additional signings, we’ve strengthened this year. We’ll be certainly looking at improving on last season’s finish.”

“Tom Lilley is fit from the start, whereas last year he wasn’t fit for the first seven or eight games. Alexis Twigg, who we signed from Harrogate, is a particularly high class batsman and we’ve also given the younger players a chance, and they’ve stepped up. Miles Buller batted 50 on Saturday and that gives me headaches.”

The clash between North Leeds and Follifoot was abandoned shortly after Leeds began their batting innings.

Follifoot elected to bat and struck a massive total of 275-5, with captain Nick Robinson hitting a huge 104 and Umar Yaqoob striking up 72.

Leeds responded, with Farhan Khan hitting 29 but the game was abandoned with their score at 79-2 after 12 overs played. This gave North Leeds five points and Follifoot nine.

Bilton beat the weather and Guiseley in a six-wicket win. After winning the toss, Vic Craven chose to field, and Guiseley were all out for only 164.

Damon Reeve hit 57 for the Leeds-based side, but they struggled to deal with Mustahsan Ali Shah’s excellent bowling display of 5-35.

Craven then got Bilton underway, hitting 59 as his side strolled to 168-4.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Collingham were routed in their game against Otley, making just 55 all out after their opponents had put together a very impressive total of 294-9.

In Division Two, Knaresborough successfully defended their low total of 121 all out to earn a first win of the campaign.

Andy Ward was left stranded on 35 not out after Knaresborough struggled to cope with Thackley’s attack, particularly Jonathan Rudge (5-37).

But Boro made better use of the bowling conditions, as Dave Girling tied Thackley into a pit of despair with 5-15 in his ten overs.

Thackley finished up 41 runs shy with Sam Whittam (2-20) claiming the final wicket.

Bardsey were unable to get a second straight win in Division Three with the weather curtailing their innings on 102-2. Ed Clayton and Matt Ansell were left on 46 not out.
