Harrogate tennis player David Brown moved back into the world top 50 when the new rankings came out on August 1, as compiled by the International Tennis Federation in the age category 50-55s with strong results in July.

Having briefly dropped down to no. 83 in the world for the previous two months with an indifferent start to the summer season, David reached the final of the Frinton International Vets tournament.

Then two weeks later, he won the Nottingham Grass court event.

“Getting back to no. 48 in the world is very pleasing,” he said.

“My aim for the year was to consolidate my top 50 position and this sets up an exciting month of August with the British Veterans Grass Court Championships looming at Wimbledon.”

David is also the captain of the Yorkshire County veterans over 45 team who have had a good start to this year’s league campaign with two wins out of three in Division One.

Anyone interested in veterans tennis can contact David at The Academy Leisure Club (tel 524052) where he coaches.
