Young tag rugby players from Belmont Grosvenor School took top honours at a West Yorkshire rugby festival recently.
Members of the school’s Under 9 team took the championship cup at the Tag Rugby Festival after a magnificent run in the competition.
The youngsters held their nerve to come out on top at the tournament which was held at Bronte House Prep School at Bradford.
Belmont Grosvenor took two teams to the Festival, organised by the RFU.
Boys from Belmont Grosvenor School’s Year three and four took part in the day, which included a training workshop in the morning.
This was followed by a tag rugby festival in the afternoon.
Members of the Under 8 team won through to the play-offs before being beaten
But the Under 9 team beat strong competition from fellow rugby players from Bronte House, Richmond House, Lady Lane, St Mary’s School, Horsforth, and the Froebelian School at Leeds, to take the Festival cup.
The boys were delighted with their win – as was Belmont Grosvenor School’s boys’ PE co-ordinator Chris Dight.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed the day playing tag rugby,” he said.
“And really got an awful lot out of it.
“The morning workshop included a warm up and skills sessions, along with other exercises and drills.
“Both teams played incredibly well and were delighted at having done so well.
“It was a very inclusive event and great to see everyone working so well as a team.”
