Aire-Wharfe League moves first round of fixtures

The Aire-Wharfe League has moved its opening round of fixtures owing to the wet weather.

Heavy rain in April has caused problems for groundsman and several club's have been unable to prepare pitches.

The opening first eleven and second team games will now be played on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30.

A statement said: “The league's management committee has made the decision based on feedback from clubs to rearrange this weekends leagues fixtures.”

2015 runners-up Beckwithshaw were due to open up their campaign at home to Ilkley, while fellow 2016 title hopefuls Bilton were due to face Rawdon on home turf.

Collingham's trip to big spending Horsforth has also been moved.

In Division Two, relegated Follifoot were due to start their season at Skipton while Knaresborough had been scheduled to face Thackley away to start their last season in the league.

The Aire-Wharfe League is the second to make a decision to postpone its first weekend following the Nidderdale League's announcement on Tuesday.

The Wetherby League will make a last minute decision on Thursday evening.
