A charity which helps millions of local people is calling for your donations as it marks its 30th birthday in an innovative way.

For the past three decades Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity (HHCC) has been supporting the local community and health services in this part of Yorkshire.

It funds specialist equipment, training and services above and beyond what NHS budgets can stretch to, making a huge difference to people’s lives.

Who do they help?

There are 720,000 people living in the hospital’s acute catchment, and 2,500,000 within the community services area.

One of the core missions of the charity is to buy the latest technology which isn’t yet available from the hospital’s own NHS funding.

Making your money go further

85 pence in every pound donated goes towards specialist equipment, services and training. And if you are a UK tax payer, your donation will generate a Gift Aid payment of 25 pence in every pound on top.

Milestone birthday campaign

While you’re welcome to donate at any time -whether through a regular contribution, a one-off gift, or by remembering the charity in your Will - the team is marking the 30th birthday by fundraising for a very special cause.

New AI cancer algorithm software has been designed to aid quicker and more effective diagnoses. This will:

· Reduce testing costs

· Reduce pathologist reviewing time by over 65 per cent

· Reduce waiting times for a cancer diagnosis by up to six days

In turn, this will provide a faster pathway to treatment for patients diagnosed with cancer.

HHCC are aiming to raise £40,000 to help fund the new system in Harrogate, and with one in two people in the UK diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, the charity has picked a cause close to many people’s hearts.

A spokesperson said: “The NHS does a marvellous job here in Harrogate and beyond, but the charity raises money to do even more for patients and their families, beyond what NHS budgets can manage.

“All the money raised locally is spent locally, and community support goes a long way to ensure people in and around Harrogate receive the best treatment they can.”
