As a Harrogate native who has been exiled in London and now Germany for the past 15 years, I recently used a rare visit home to go and watch Harrogate Town in action at Wetherby Road.
I could not have been happier with my decision. Exciting, end-to-end football from a young team, six goals and a last minute equaliser for Town. I bought a scarf, ate a pie, drank two pints and still had change from £30. Compare this to the cost of watching my usual team in the Championship, and there is absolutely no doubt what represents better value for money.
The only downside? Less than 400 in attendance. Those that were there made for a brilliant atmosphere with non-stop singing and plenty of yellow and black on show, but how good would it be if Town could attract 1,000+ on a regular basis? My message to the townfolk – you have a great team and club on your doorstep. Go and support them!
