The crowds appear to grow each year. There must have been in excess of 30,000 visitors to the town, without doubt making The Great Knaresborough Bed Race the highlight of the year.
To see such an event enjoying this level of success, running for over 50 years is a credit to the Lions, volunteers and sponsors who make sure it happens; long may it continue.
Not only does it entertain spectators of all ages, it brings huge amounts of revenue to the town for many businesses and raises tens of thousands of pounds for numerous worthwhile charities, both local and national.
It also puts Knaresborough on the map and I am sure many visitors on the day must want to return again and again.
The standard of bed decoration and determination from the teams aiming for a fast time provides great entertainment for the day.
Naturally helped when the sun shines, as it did this year.
Let’s hope the authorities continue to view the event in the same light; looking forward to The Great Knaresborough Bed Race continuing in the same format for many years to come.
