Letter: Buildings to be demolished at Menwith Hill

NSA/NRO Menwith Hill is certainly shrinking (Alexander Beard, Demolition at '˜RAF' Menwith Hill, January 11). It is good news that 13 buildings, with more to follow, are to be demolished. The base does not need so many people to operate the sophisticated technology. What they do is of deep concern.

Some of us have campaigned for years to find out what they do there and the long term objective is to send the US Visiting Forces and their agencies back to within their own borders. They are on their way.

I don’t need to tell anyone that we live in dangerous, troubled times and with Donald Trump as Commander in Chief in charge heaven knows what he will do next.

Far from enhancing our security, this secretive and unaccountable base, occupied and controlled by the American authorities, puts all our security at risk.
