Boroughbridge High School pupil Aimee O’Connell has been offered a scholarship at Bournemouth and Poole College with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts as a Specialised Chef Apprentice, starting in September.
The teenager is following her passion for cooking after twice winning the Knaresborough Rotary Young Chef Competition.
She added: “The Rotary Young Chef Competition has been instrumental in helping me to achieve my goal.”
“The skills which I learnt during the competition, and the support which I received from Rotary members and the staff at Bettys has helped me to progress with my passion for cooking.
“I would like to the Rotary Club for all the help and guidance during the two years I participated in the competition and I will always be grateful for the interest and encouragement that has been shown.”
Aimee was twice the winner of Knaresborough Rotary Club’s Young Chef competition, progressing to the Yorkshire Final and once to the Regional Final.
The District final was held at Betty’s Cookery School and as a result Aimee was offered work experience with the company.
Rotary Club spokesman Brian Souter said: “For a number of years we have tried to support and encourage young people through our Young Musicians, Young Chef, Youth Leadership Awards, ‘Kids Out’ and Young Carers holidays. It is a great joy to hear Aimee’s good news.
In this year’s competition five young chefs from Boroughbridge High School and Nidderdale High School will compete in January to see who will go forward to the Yorkshire Final at Betty’s cookery school in February.
