Work already begun for this year’s Christmas lights

PREPARATIONS are already underway to put in place a bright Christmas lights display in Harrogate for 2011.

Every year, the Harrogate at Christmas support group set out a plan to raise money for the town’s Christmas lights.

The group has just heard that Harrogate Borough Council are to contribute £10,000 towards this year’s lights, a sum which has to be matched by local fundraisers.

“We are extremely pleased to hear that Harrogate Council will continue to support the group,” said treasurer Brian Dunsby.

“Harrogate at Christmas has a budget of £30,000 for 2011, so we still have £20,000 to raise.”

To help raise money the Harrogate at Christmas Group has set up a number of initiatives and sponsorship opportunities, working together with the Ackrill Media Group and Stray FM.

Those who sign up will also be entered into the shop window competition and will be given a Harrogate at Christmas bauble to display in their shop.

Collection boxes are to be set up in stores in the town centre and the group is keen to hear from bars and cafes who want to take part.
