It’s A Colourful World: the weather did us proud over the Bank Holiday weekend and lots of visitors came to view the open gardens and our beautifully decorated church. Our visitors were very complementary about everything, including the refreshments, and as a result the church has benefited by £7,800. Many thanks are due to everyone who worked so hard to make the weekend a success.
Medic Malawi Tea Party: you will be welcome at Cherry Tree Cottage, High Street, Whixley, on Sunday afternoon, June from 16 at 2pm, for afternoon tea. The Fishers are supporters of Medic Malawi, a charity that funds a hospital in Mtunthama, Malawi, and all proceeds go to this charity.
Whixley Cherry Festival: in the ‘olden days’ Whixley was renowned for its cherry trees and the fruit they produced. Cherries were sent all the way to the London markets and Cherry features in many house names to this very day. To celebrate this a Whixley Medieval Fayre in and around the village hall has been organised to take place on Saturday, June 29. Entrance is free! There will be lots of things to take part in including a baking competition with a cherry theme, a shield design competition, archery, stocks, jugglers and fancy dress will be encouraged. Telephone Bill Gordon 01423 330559 for more details, oh, and pray for good weather.
