Wetherby CC announces Yorkshire exhibition match for Andrew Gale benefit

Yorkshire County Cricket Club will play an exhibition match at Wetherby's Grange Park this summer.

Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale will stage the event on July 17 as part of his benefit season at Headingley.

Gale is Yorkshire’s most successful captain in recent history after guiding the White Rose county to back to back County Championships successes over the last two years.He will bring a Yorkshire team to play against a side from host club Wetherby.

England batsman Jonny Bairstow is likely to be amongst the Yorkshire team while organisers are trying to secure special guest appearances.

West Indian great Collis King, who has played for Bardsey, has also been approached.

Event organiser Andrew Clews, a former committee member of the Wetherby League, said: “Andrew Gale shas been the most successful Yorkshire captain for a very long time. This is an opportunity to recognise him

“We want to get as many youngsters in as possible.

“The greater exposure young players get to their heroes, the more they see it is something they can achieve and it’s not just something that happens on television.”

Gale has chosen Yorkshire Children’s Trust as his charity for his benefit.
