Weeton Show: Thousands expected to flock for 'slice of rural life'

The 72nd run of the annual country show takes place on Sunday, July 29, with Main Ring entertainment starting from 12.30pm.

Alongside main acts including the Eagle Heights Birds of Prey Display Team, and the expert displays of side saddle horse riding by Anne Everall with Friends, there will be are more than 60 trade and food stands on offer.

Candy Waller, General Secretary, of the Weeton Show Committee said: “I think that this is the most lovely show in Wharfedale. It is very important for the community, and we always can look forward to some friendly competition with the number of entries we receive.

“In the produce tent I wouldn’t be surprised if we see something close to 20 entries for certain categories. “She added: “We are expecting this to be an amazing day. We get between 3,000 to 5,000 people depending on the weather, and we are expecting it to be a good one this year.

“They will be enjoying a slice of English rural life.”

Beside the main ring the show will see classic draws returning including ferret racing, performances of Punch and Judy, carriage driving and a chance to take part in the Rougemont Chase.

Having raised more than £10,000 for local causes through the show over the years funds raised this year will go towards Horticap.
