Elderly people due to receive a coronavirus vaccine jab at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate tomorrow have been told to stay at home due to heavy snow and freezing temperatures.

All Saturday appointments have been moved by North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to Sunday to prevent people making a trip out in the icy conditions.

Heavy snowfall has already caused travel disruption across the Harrogate district and more is forecast into the early hours of tomorrow morning.

In a statement, the CCG said: "Due to adverse weather conditions, the Covid vaccination clinic due to be held at the Yorkshire Event Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate tomorrow (Saturday) is being rescheduled.

"The majority of people who'd been invited to have their Covid jab tomorrow are elderly and many will be frail.

"GP practices in the Harrogate district are in the process of contacting all affected patients directly."
