Major Harrogate visitor attraction announces closure over storm Ciara safety fears

A major Harrogate visitor attraction has taken the decision to close for one day only this weekend, due to fears over the severity of the impending Storm Ciara.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr will be closed on Sunday - the day the Met Office forecasts to be the worst for Harrogate and the wider district.

Harlow Carr tweeted: "To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, following Met Office weather warnings, the RHS will not be opening its gardens and shops on Sunday 9 February. Bettys Café Tearooms will be open as normal. The garden will be open as normal on Saturday and Monday."

A yellow weather warning from the Met Office is in place for Sunday, with gusts of up to 52mph expected throughout the day in the Harrogate district.

Rain is also forecast across the district on Sunday, with expectations that it will be heavy between 6am and 3pm.
