One in three Harrogate residents targeted by scammers during lockdown, Citizens Advice warns

A level three amber 'heat-health' alert is triggered when the Met Office confirms temperatures that threshold temperatures have been reached for several days.

It requires social and healthcare services to begin to target specific actions at high-risk groups.

The level three alert is one step below a national emergency.

The Met Office said: "There is a 90 per cent chance of Heat-Health criteria being met between 8am on Thursday and 9pm on Friday in parts of England.

"Temperatures exceeding 30C were observed quite widely across the UK on Wednesday.

"Similar temperatures, perhaps a degree or two higher are expected widely on Thursday. "

The forecaster added: "Look out for others, especially older people, young children and babies and those with underlying health conditions.

"Close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors.

"Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol, dress appropriately and slow down when it is hot."

It will be dry and warm overnight.

On Friday, it will be very hot with long spells of strong sunshine.

Thunderstorms spreading from the south by afternoon, may be widespread by evening with torrential rain.

It will be cooler and breezier Saturday and Sunday with some rain and showers, occasionally heavy.
