The Harrogate district is preparing itself for another 'Beast from the East' this weekend as heavy snow showers and icy conditions are forecast.

Back in 2018, the Beast from the East brought huge snow storms to the UK, burying much of the country under serious snowfall.

And now forecasters are predicting freezing Siberian winds blowing from Russia to the UK in the coming week, resulting in a weather phenomenon similar to those three years ago.

BBC weather forecasters said: “As the colder air crosses the relatively warmer North Sea, heavy showers are likely to develop and move into eastern and central Britain.”

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice from tomorrow, Saturday, which remains in place until Wednesday.

There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off.

A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable.
