WATCH: Man proposes on stage at the Royal Hall in Harrogate
When Howard Corrin decided he wanted to get down on bended knee and propose to his girlfriend one year, he knew he wanted to do it differently.
Shunning the usual romantic restaurant or tourist beauty spot, Howard decided on a theatrical proposal in front of an audience for his dancer bride-to-be.
During a dress rehearsal for Studio Three’s Dance Krazy 30th anniversary performance, Howard, 49, stormed the stage taking the role of Phantom of the Opera before dropping to one knee and asking Emma MacEwan, 24, to marry him.
She said yes in front of a packed-out audience, as all of the friends and family of Studio Three performers had attended the rehearsal to watch the proposal.
“I wanted to do something different and memorable,” said Howard. “Viv Hall from Studio Three suggested doing it during the rehearsal rather than the actual show incase it threw Emma off.
“She looked very surprised to see me when I appeared on the side of the stage.”
He added: “I was nervous but I was very pleased to do it and I have performed on stage many times before.”
The couple met one year ago as they both performed in Guys and Dolls at the Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough.
Emma, who has been dancing since was four years old performed in the show alongside Howard who played the lead Nathan Detroit.
The couple, who live in Knaresborough, are planning to get married in summer 2016 and hope to go on a Nile cruise for their honey moon.
Howard decided to upload the video of the proposal to Youtube.
He said: “I thought it would just be people from the dance group who would watch but it has been shared lots, I have had some really nice comments from people saying how brave and how romantic it was.”
He added: “Being on the stage in the Royal Hall , it was amazing. It is a beautiful building.
“The theatre was packed with people watching the rehearsal and it was wonderful when everyone started cheering.”
