Wallks diary for the week ahead

HARROGATE RAMBLING CLUB

The spring flowers are beginning to show themselves and the days are getting longer – is winter behind us? I don’t think that we ramblers are counting our chickens just yet!

We walk on Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the year, and welcome new members who can join any of the walks for a trial without commitment.

On Sunday, February 9 there are two walks planned. The ‘B’ group meet at Stump Cross Caverns to start a 10 mile hike to Grimwith and Skyreholme, whilst the ‘C/D’ walkers start a six mile ramble in Ripon taking in Studley Park and Seven Bridges.

On Wednesday, February 12 there are five walks in the programme. The ‘A’ group travel over to Clay Bank to start a 14 mile hike on the Cleveland Way to Bilsdale Hall and Otter Hills, whilst the ‘B+’ members meet in Kirby Overblow to tackle a 13 mile ramble to Harewood Bridge, Sicklinghall and Spofforth. The ‘B’ group travel to Pateley Bridge to cover 11 miles taking in Wath, Heathfield, and Nought Moor, whilst the ‘C’ walkers meet at Beningborough Hall for a seven mile ramble around the nearby countryside and river bank. Meanwhile, the ‘D’ group start a six mile walk at Eccup Reservoir.

HARROGATE GROUP OF THE RAMBLERS’ ASSOCIATION

The Group walk on Saturdays throughout the year and new members are welcome. This week’s walk is in Wharfedale. The 10 mile route starts from Ilkley and includes a scenic section of the Millenium Way along the edge of Ilkley Moor. There are stunning views across Wharfedale to Beamsley Beacon. After dropping down to Addingham, the walk returns to Ilkley along the Dales Way. Meet 9.45am on Saturday, February 8 at the New Bridge Ilkley LS29 0AF, parking nearby (check for parking metres). February 9 - Hebden and the Grassington lead workings. Seven and a half miles. Tel 01423 202562. February 16 - Burton Leonard to Bishop Monkton circular walk. Lunch at the lock. Field paths and tracks, may be muddy. Eight and a half miles (can be shortened to seven and a half miles for anyone wanting short cut). Tel 01423 873330. NORTH YORKSHIRE FELL CLUB

North Yorkshire Fell Club takes great pride in the variety of its walks in beautiful countryside throughout the north of England. We walk on Sundays in all weather conditions, enjoying moors, mountains, hills and dales. On Sunday, February 9 we will be above Wharfedale and Littondale on a strenuous 13 mile walk, starting from Kettlewell, with shorter options available for those who do not wish to complete the full course. On Sunday, February 16 we make our second visit of the year to the Lake District for a challenging nine and a half mile walk over St Sunday Crag and Fairfield, starting from Patterdale. NIDDERDALE LONG DISTANCE WALKERS ASSOCIATION
