Leeds Road drivers watched on in horror this afternoon (June 6) as a Harrogate motorist reversed through a set of railings directly into oncoming traffic.
CCTV footage captured the moment that the driver of the Ford Transit Connect lost control of his car as he was reversing near the road.
At around 1.50pm, the driver, a man in his 80's, smashed through the metal railings and into a parked bicycle, only narrowly avoiding an oncoming lorry.
Further chaos ensued as the driver reversed again into the right hand lane with other stunned motorists on the roundabout coming to a complete halt.
The driver then slowly pulled out into the left hand lane, ahead of the lorry, before coming to a stop once again at the roundabout's exit.
Police confirmed that nobody had been injured in the crash and that the driver was left shaken but otherwise unharmed.
No legal action will be taken against the man but police have requested that the council make repairs to the metal railings.
