The driver of the car, a 79-year-old man, also from Pateley Bridge, is being treated in hospital with serious injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to thecollision, which took place at 1.30pm on Monday, June 8 on the Sandbeck approach near Wetherby Services.

A police statement read: “There were two vehicles involved in the collision, a white Chrysler and a blue BMW.

“The passenger in the Chrysler, a 77 year old woman from Pateley Bridge, sustained critical injuries in the collision and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she remains in a critical condition.

“The driver of the Chrysler, a 79 year old man from Pateley Bridge, was also taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

“The driver of the BMW, a 61 year old man from the Durham area was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with minor injuries.”
