UPDATE: Tockwith drunk-driver hospitalised after crashing car into tree

A drunk-driver who crashed his car into a tree on Tokwith Road last night has been taken to hospital with a head injury.

The 26-year-old’s Ford Fiesta collided with a tree on Tockwith Road near Broad Oaks Farm at Cowthorpe at around 10.45pm on Monday, August 3.

After crews from Arkham and Knaresborough extricated the male using cutting equipment, rams and lifting gear he was taken to Harrogate Hospital with a head injury.

Police confirmed that the man, who is local to the area, failed a roadside breath test and said he was ‘incredibly lucky’ not to have sustained a more serious injury.

Any witnesses to the collision are urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 1 – and pass information to the Force Control Room.
