Two houses struck by lightning in Ripon
Two houses in Ripon were struck by lightning in yesterdays freak storms.
A property on Victoria Grove was hit by lightning at around 2.30pm and another property on College Road was hit at around 2.55pm.
Fire crews from Ripon and Harrogate responded to the calls and on Victoria Grove the chimney pot was knocked from the roof by the lightning strike.
Cars were also damaged in a nearby carpark and Northern Powergrid were called out to deal with a powercut in the area.
In Brafferton, near Boroughbridge, 4000 pheasants have died after two poultry shed caught fire.
Fire crews from Ripon, Boroughbridge, Thirsk and Easingwold were called to the blaze.
