Temporary traffic lights and road closures on Leeds Road had been been causing long queues but North Yorkshire County Council's Street Works Network Co-ordinator has taken note of complaints and stepped in.

The lights system was installed because of work by Northern Powergrid and NGN around the St George's Road Roundabout on the A61 Leeds Road.

The lights were intended to be manually controlled from 7am to 7pm each day but congestion still built up.

At one point, the longest queue stretched back to the M&S junction on the A61 northbound into Harrogate.

But the good news for frustrated Harrogate drivers today, Friday is that teams have been working hard to accelerate cable route through the A61 Leeds and have completed this much faster than expected.

As a result, the four-way lights and roads closures were ended at 9.30am this morning to enable traffic to revert to being free-flowing, in theory.
