A crash involving three vehicles caused traffic chaos on the A658 bypass near the Thistle Hill turn off to Knaresborough.

A 999 call was made just after 1pm with the caller reporting a car upturned in the road.

A Police spokesperson confirmed that three cars were involved in the crash; a silver Toyota Aversa, a silver Toyota Verso and a black Volkswagen Scirocco.

Two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles attended the accident.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called but stood down before arrival.

One female was trapped in a vehicle and had to be released by fire crews.

People in two of the cars were injured and treated by paramedics.

Four female’s who were travelling together in one vehicle were treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to Harrogate District Hospital.

Their injuries have been described as not serious.

One man who had been in another vehicle was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

The road has now re-opened.
