A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Due to problems with staffing, Harrogate signal box opened later than planned this morning. This meant that some services were disrupted and we’d like to apologise to anyone who was affected by this incident. The signal box is now open as normal."

They added that staff were not on site to open the box on time but were unable to clarify as to why when asked by the Advertiser.

Rail operator Northern has said that while the line is open that residual delays could occur.
