Rail services were delayed across the Harrogate line this morning due to problems with staffing, say Network Rail.

Services were delayed this morning (Monday, April 23) between Knaresborough, Harrogate and Leeds in both directions after a signal box was opened later than planned.

Network Rail, who operate railway infrastructure in England, Wales and Scotland, have apologised for the disruption.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Due to problems with staffing, Harrogate signal box opened later than planned this morning. This meant that some services were disrupted and we’d like to apologise to anyone who was affected by this incident. The signal box is now open as normal."

They added that staff were not on site to open the box on time but were unable to clarify as to why when asked by the Advertiser.

Rail operator Northern has said that while the line is open that residual delays could occur.
