Cyclist hurt in crash with 18-tonne lorry

A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash with an 18 tonne livestock carrier in the Harrogate district.

The man, aged in his 20s and from Leeds, was injured in the crash at around 1.40pm on Monday on the B6451 at Norwood. He is said to be in a stable condition after suffering serious injuries.

Another cyclist, also in his 20s, suffered minor injuries and was treated in hospital but later discharged.

The road was closed to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and reopened at around 7pm.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash - and asking anyone who stopped at the scene to help to get in touch if they haven’t already done so.

They would also like to hear from anyone who was travelling along the stretch of the B6451 from Otley to Norwood, who saw either parties before the crash.

Police say the lorry, a green, 18 tonne livestock carrier driven by a man in his 40s from the Silsden area, had been travelling towards Norwood at the time.

The cyclists had been travelling in the same direction and the crash happened approximately one mile from the Sun Inn on the Otley side.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for TC Steve Wright at Harrogate Roads Policing Group or email, quoting incident number 12140084596.
